A Safeworking Process Tool · Demo Prototype

A safeworking tool that turns complex procedures into one clear process.

A working prototype of a rail safeworking tool.

A little about Opposite

We are an organisational psychology and human-centred design consultancy. We simplify complex, high-risk work so people in the field can do it safely and confidently.

HUMAN-CENTRED

We design for the end user

Every tool we build starts with the person doing the task, not the document that describes it. If it does not work in the field, it does not work.

PROCESS-LED

Clear steps, clear accountability

We replace dense, interpretation-heavy procedures with linear processes where each step, decision and responsible role is unambiguous.

RISK & SAFETY

Deep sector experience

Our work spans rail, infrastructure, energy, health, logistics and government, including human factors and psychosocial safety.

DIGITAL BUILD

We build the actual tool

We do not just advise. We design and build working digital tools that can be deployed to smartphones and used on the job.

The safeworking process tool

A concept we developed for Metro Trains Melbourne. The idea: anchor all safeworking to one universal process, then put it in people's hands digitally.

The shift we made

  • From rules scattered across complex documents that are rarely followed accurately.
  • To a single linear process where each step is described in sequence.
  • From prose and interpretation of procedures.
  • To clear decision criteria and named accountability at every point.

What makes it work

  • One universal process underlies every form of safeworking activity.
  • Risk assessments run with clear, built-in decision criteria.
  • Accountability is explicit all the way through the life cycle.
  • Digital and end-user centric, deployable to smartphones and field tools.

Where this goes next

The end-to-end safeworking processes were adopted into Metro Trains Melbourne's procedures. The technology concept was ahead of its time then. With AI and richer visuals now available, there is a real opportunity to build and deploy it for the field.
